The best time for a Cake Smash session is typically around your baby’s first birthday. However, some parents also choose to book one for their little one’s older birthday or another milestone. Ideally, plan your session a few weeks before their birthday to ensure you have the photos ready to share for any celebrations, invitations, or keepsakes.
What to Expect
Cake Smash sessions are relaxed, playful, and designed to capture all the excitement and sweetness of your little one’s special day. I’ll work closely with you to create the ideal theme or colour scheme for the backdrop, and ensure the session is fun for both you and your baby.
During the session, we’ll capture:
Portrait Time: We’ll start with some clean, adorable portraits of your baby before the cake makes its grand entrance.
The Cake Smash: This is where the magic happens—your baby will explore the cake, play, and get delightfully messy. I’ll also capture all those sweet little moments—cake-covered hands, messy faces, and joyful expressions!
Splash Time (Optional): Some sessions conclude with a bubble bath clean up in a cute tub, offering even more photo opportunities and ending on a fun, refreshing note.
I’ll guide the session to ensure we capture a mix of posed and candid moments, all while keeping it fun and stress-free for everyone.
After the session, I’ll carefully edit the images, a process that takes about 2-3 weeks. Once completed, your photos will be uploaded to a private online gallery, where you can view and select your favourites.
Preparing for Your Session
To make sure your Cake Smash session goes smoothly, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Outfits: Choose a cute outfit that complements the theme or colour scheme. You may want to bring a second outfit for after the cake smash if your baby gets messy. For the portraits, consider a special outfit or something simple and classic. For the cake smash itself, I recommend outfits that are cute but okay to get messy! Many parents opt for a nappy cover, tutu, or suspenders. I’ll provide guidance and suggestions based on your theme.
Cake: You can bring your own cake, or I can arrange a bespoke cake (additional charge applies).
Props and Personal Touches: If you have any personal items, like a special toy or blanket, feel free to bring it along! These can be incorporated into the shoot for an added personal touch.
